MLC’s inaugural Showstopper Concert brought together 15 talented students from Years 7 to 12 for an evening of outstanding performances and black-tie excitement.Ìý
Created to showcase the exceptional musical talent within our Music Program, the Showstopper Concert gave students a formal, real-world experience — from auditioning and preparing, to performing live on stage. Applications opened at the end of 2024, with a strong number of students auditioning early in Term 1. Fifteen students were then selected to perform.Ìý
In front of an audience of family, friends, students and staff, student musicians shared their artistry across a range of instruments, including piano, violin, harp, flute, horn and clarinet. Their repertoire featured works by some of the world’s most celebrated composers, including Chopin, Brahms and Schubert.Ìý
Director of Music, Ms Vicki Dede, said:Ìý
"The Showstopper Concert was a highly anticipated event on the 2025 Music Calendar. The line-up of talent was truly impressive. Aspiring musicians were encouraged to attend, get inspired and aim for the heights of performance excellence. The black tie dress code, drinks and nibbles on arrival really made the event memorable."Ìý
The success of the Showstopper Concert reflects the strength and spirit of MLC’s Music Program, one of the most welcoming and comprehensive music programs in ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ.Ìý
Open to students across primary and secondary years, the program invites every student — regardless of their experience level — to explore a wide range of musical opportunities. Students can study classical and contemporary instruments, undertake vocal training and music theory, and participate in more than 20 ensembles, bands and choirs, including Amati Strings, Concert Choir and the Marching Band.Ìý
With private tuition available during the school day, and dedicated music facilities such as the James Tatoulis Auditorium, Flockart Hall and a professional recording studio, MLC students are supported to perform, create and grow. Students regularly perform diverse musical styles as soloists and in ensembles, both at the College and at renowned venues such as the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Recital Centre.Ìý
At MLC, music is for everyone — and the first Showstopper Concert is just the beginning of a wonderful new tradition celebrating the passion, artistry and achievement of our student musicians.Ìý
